Hi Jackie,

Thank you for your kind words - they're very encouraging. And I'm so glad to hear you're enjoying Mariposa Spirit!. Our next issue will be even better as we start to get the hang of this thing. ;)
I'll do my best to answer any questions you have about jyotish. I love talking astrology, especially with other astrologers. And whenever you want to schedule a reading, just let me know!

Take care and hope to talk to you soon!

Hi Holly,

I am loving your articles. I just found you because someone gave me an issue of Mariposa Spirit and I'm gobbling it up.

Thank you for your articles and wisdom. I'm a fan already.

I'm a bit of an astrologer myself so at some point in the near future I'd like to have a session with you and see what Joytish astrology is all about. Thank you again. Jackie Burns

I love your answer, Jaime. Sports has been an enigma to me for a long time. Even more so now that I’m married to a sports enthusiast. And you’re right. People will hug their neighbor, no matter who it is, if the home team pulls off an amazing win. Perhaps its about hope. Hope justified and glorified. Isn't hope the magic that makes life worth living - even in the worst of times? Maybe it's such a common experience, need even, like life and love, that it brings people together as well. It becomes more important than egotistical disagreements.
When I was considering your comment before, I thought it was primarily about having a common goal, or possibly a common enemy. I still think these are important (hopefully goal more than enemy). But I really like this hope idea. What do you think?

You know what's funny... sports. Honestly, that was the only answer I could come up with in response to your ending question. And I know you're not going to like my answer. But it's true: the only other time I've seen people come together randomly and forget about each other's differences is when something monumental happens at a sporting event. A come-from-behind win, a record-breaking moment, a win for a team that hasn't won a championship in a century... between the adrenaline, the camaraderie and all the good cheer, I think it's similar to the emotion you describe. For what it's worth.

Probably not Goldilocks, that might alienate some ethnic groups and send the wrong kind of message, you know? Of course, I'm kidding, but its a good point about too much accountability. I suspect that when one party sloughs off accountability, another picks it up. And whoever does so, indeed, is the one in power. Just like Obama and just like pharmaceutical companies. Although wrapping my head around what, exactly, Obama was trying to accomplish there kind of escapes me. Hmm. Whoever is the one held accountable is the one expected to act. Considering that, perhaps Obama didn't want anyone going out and pulling something crazy, so he took the blame himself. Effectively saying - "Hey, this is my fault and its my problem. I'll take care of it. Enjoy your Christmas." Thereby keeping nutjobs with time off over the holidays at home with their families instead of getting creative with their buddies. I like thinking of it that way, to tell you the truth.

Really good post, Holly. I agree with pretty much everything you say, especially the part about the pharmaceutical companies convincing our society that we "need" assorted medications to live normal lives, whatever that means. It is all about money, and really has nothing to do with health or wellness. I read an excellent book about this subject a few years ago, I'll have to see if I can remember the title.

An interesting corollary to this post is the phenomenon of too much accountability. Remember the would-be airplane bomber last Christmas? Remember Obama apologizing to the country on his behalf? That event really rubbed me the wrong way, as we may have discussed. Obama didn't try to blow up the plane, and he had no reason to take any responsibility for the event. To me, it seemed like an attempt to distract attention from the fact that it's becoming increasingly impossible to predict and preempt terrorist acts... just because you're willing to take the blame for something doesn't necessarily fix the something.

Anyway, I guess I mean that our country has problems on both ends: not enough accountability and too much accountability. Think we can find a way to find a Goldilocks-style, just-right amount of accountability?

Molly, here is a stoopid husband comment: When you live with her, the lovely reminders are everywhere all the time. It's quite nice.
